Discovering the Amalfi Coast with Bellarome’s Private Tours
We have spent a wonderful week in Sorrento with our colleagues. From food tours to boat tours, we experienced the Amalfi Coast in the most authentic way, just as Bellarome’s clients do, specifically the Food tour and Limoncello tour of Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and Positano full-day, Capri and Anacapri boat tour and finally, the tour of Pompeii. Safe to say we were mesmerized by the beauty of the sea and the cliffs, as well as the ancient history. Here is a little overview of how our week looked:
Day 1: A grand welcome to Sorrento
3rd November 2024
On the first day, we were welcomed in the Grand Hotel de la Ville in Sorrento, which had amazingly decorated rooms, all showcasing the old Italian design. Upon our arrival, we were treated to a delightful welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was nothing short of amazing. It was a three-course meal featuring delicious traditional Italian dishes, paired perfectly with a selection of fine wines. Each dish was a celebration of authentic flavours, from the appetizers to the different desserts. We enjoyed this warm, inviting atmosphere that set the tone for an unforgettable stay.
Day 2: Exploring Sorrento’s culinary delights
4th November 2024
Our first full day in Sorrento! Today, we had the opportunity to attend the Food and Limoncello tour of Sorrento. This two-hour walking tour took us through the charming streets of Sorrento, immersing us in the local flavors. Along the way, we indulged in an array of delicious local bites, starting with a Panini sandwich made with mouthwatering combination of fresh, local ingredients. As we strolled through the picturesque alleys, we made another stop to sample different types of Limoncello liqueur, each with its unique twist. The vibrant, zesty flavors perfectly encapsulated the spirit of Sorrento, where lemons are a symbol of the region. To complement the Limoncello, we also enjoyed an assortment of cookies and sweets, each bite a delightful blend of tradition and sweetness. The tour was not just about the food but also about the stories and history of the city and it left us with a deeper appreciation for Sorrento’s heritage.
In the evening, we went to the wonderful O’Parucchiano restaurant, where we had a four-course meal consisting of seafood pasta, some typical bites of the region, lemon-marinated fish, and desert. Sharing laughs and drinks, we had an amazing dinner, enjoying the scenery of the restaurant, which was filled with lemon trees and sculptures.
Day 3: A luxurious Capri and Anacapri boat tour
5th November 2024
We woke up early, as today was the day to go to our Capri boat tour. A full day of activities has been promised, and it was delivered. We were picked up from Sorrento on the boat, which took us along the coast showing the hidden gems and grottos, before finally arriving to the island of Capri. Mesmerized by the cliffs and the sea, we were served with chilled champagne while exploring the hidden caves of Capri, after which we were dropped off at the small port. We chose to go to the town by taxi, which was probably the best choice we have made, since the cars were old-timey and genuinely created a unique vibe that just added to the experience. Getting lost in the charms of both Capri and Anacapri was the icing on the cake, so the boat ride back to Sorrento, although still beautiful and filled with scenery, was bittersweet. Naturally, to combat the heat, (even though it was the beginning of November) we took a swim break in the warm sea. If you consider yourself a person who does not like tours, and does not prefer them, please give this one a chance. This was surely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and was worth every moment spent.
This evening, we were in more of a casual mood, and went to one of the highly reviewed Pizzerias, Pizzeria Da Franco. Having the opportunity to enjoy the traditional mozzarella Bufala with ham, it was extremely hard not to fill up on the appetizers alone. Thankfully, we were served with the pizzas of our choice, and they were indeed heavenly. The location looked like your classic, traditional Italian pizza place, which you would find away from any tourist traps.
Day 4: Stepping back in time at Pompeii
6th November 2024
Another day of waking up early, but another time it was so worth it. Our tour of the day was scheduled to be in Pompeii, the only archaeological site in the world that provides a complete picture of an ancient Roman city. After a pleasant ride to the site, we were greeted by our tour guide and proceeded to enter. We were taken around the amphitheatres, shops and houses of both the rich and the poor, strolled along these ancient streets, went through one of the spas/Roman baths, the famous brothel (one of many), the city square and explored most of what was possible to see, and there was a lot, as most of the walls, art and “paintings” were there. In the end, we were taken to a sort of a small museum, where we could see how the houses were decorated in the time, as well as the casts of the people that were found centuries after the eruption. As someone who had Pompeii on their bucket list for a long time, I feel like it exceeded my expectations.
Tonight, our dinner was Da Gigino restaurant, where we enjoyed a three-course meal of seafood pasta, fish and dessert. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough to anyone who might find themselves in Sorrento, as the pasta was the most delicious one I have had so far on the trip. Of course, the company of our colleagues was amazing as well, so having another day end on a high note was satisfying.
Day 5: The beauty of Amalfi and Positano
7th November 2024
Our last full day in Sorrento! As disappointing as that sentence sounds, high hopes were left to at least spend the final day like the ones before. Our tour today was the tour of Amalfi and Positano, so we were very excited to explore other cities of the coast
And our final dinner did not disappoint either, as we had another four-course meal scheduled at the Restaurant Tasso. Pleased with having the opportunity to have the famous mozzarella Bufala and ham, the appetisers have started out again, strong. We had another wonderful dish of pasta, followed by fish (seafood and pasta lovers will surely enjoy visiting Sorrento, I am able to vouch for that as one myself). The dessert was a choice between a lemon cake or tiramisu, and even though lemons are famous for the region, I had to choose tiramisu (it’s never a bad choice), so our final night again, ended on a sweet note.
Day 6: Farewell to the Amalfi Coast
8th November 2024
Our last morning was spent wandering Sorrento’s streets and picking up souvenirs to remember this incredible trip. As we bid goodbye to the Amalfi Coast, we felt immense gratitude for the memories created and the stunning beauty we’d experienced.
